Norway’s Military Training Center for Ukrainians Opens in Poland

(MENAFN) A new military facility designed to train Ukrainian forces has been inaugurated in southeastern Poland, with oversight from Norwegian authorities. Named Camp Jomsborg, the center was built by engineers from Norway’s Brigade Nord and is located in the town of Lipa.

According to Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who shared the update on X, the camp has the capacity to accommodate as many as 1,200 troops simultaneously.

He highlighted that the facility will place particular emphasis on “developing drone capabilities.”

Kosiniak-Kamysz also pointed out that the knowledge and expertise gained from Ukraine’s battlefield experience would prove beneficial to NATO as well.

He emphasized the reciprocal nature of the partnership, stating, “This is not a one-way street. An important element is that we will draw on Ukrainian experience. Right next to us is a drone launch strip.”

Since the escalation of hostilities with Russia in 2022, Poland has played a crucial role as a central hub for both the delivery and coordination of Western military support to Ukraine. It has also hosted numerous training operations for Ukrainian service members.

In a related development, European Union leaders on the same day approved plans to establish a “drone wall” along the eastern boundary of the bloc.

This decision comes after Poland reported last month that its airspace had been breached by Russian unmanned aerial vehicles.

Estonia, too, has reported violations, asserting that three Russian fighter aircraft crossed into its airspace in September.

In response, Moscow has rejected both nations’ claims as unfounded and has in turn accused the EU of inciting conflict.
